Chuck Loeb!

Recently on Highways & Byways

From the INTERVIEW section: Chuck Loeb

Legendary jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb was on the program recently. We discussed his early interests in music, he told some entertaining stories and yes, we plugged his new album. Two new albums, actually.

The first is Chuck Loeb’s brand new solo album called Between 2 Worlds. It’ll be officially released in Spain in March. Chuck dedicated several songs on the album to special people who have made a big impact on his life.

It all began with the song Hiram, a dedication to guitarist Hiram Bullock, who recently passed away, and who Loeb calls “a friend, a guitar hero and continuing inspiration.”

Chuck admitted, sadly, that he had never expressed those sentiments to Hiram while he was alive.

That’s when Chuck realized the importance of expressing his gratitude to other incredible people who’ve inspired and supported him throughout his life and career – and doing so while they’re still alive.

These songs include The Great Hall, a dedication to Jim Hall (“the guitarist’s guitarist”) and 360, dedicated to Loeb’s former teacher Pat Metheny who, as Loeb says, “can cover 360 degrees of music.”

The other new album is by the group Metro, called Express, which is released on Indigo Records. Here, Chuck Loeb teams up with keyboardist Mitchel Foreman, drummer Wolfgang Haffner and bassist Will Lee.

My favorite song? Absynth Blues.

Here’s Chuck Loeb playing Autumn Leaves:
