Bill Evans & Soulgrass!

From the INTERVIEW section: Bill Evans & Soulgrass!

Legendary saxophonist Bill Evans joined us on the air last week to discuss his recent concerts in Spain with his Soulgrass band, as well as to promote his new album called The Other Side of Something.

I met Bill in 2006 during his stopover here in Madrid soon after he had released his album called Soulgrass, which was nominated for a Grammy award.

Soulgrass is a really exciting sound that combines jazz, blues and Americana styles of music (with a touch of bluegrass, of course), and the Soulgrass group really “pushes the throttle,” as Bill would say.

Last week, the Soulgrass band played shows in Bilbao (Sala Kafe Antzokia), Madrid (Clamores), Las Rozas (Auditorio Joaquín Rodrigo) and Valladolid (Auditorio Feria de Muestras).

I was totally amazed after seeing them at Clamores on Thursday night. What a combination of talented musicians!

Along with Bill Evans on saxophone, keyboards and vocals, the band included Ryan Cavanaugh on banjo, Christian Howes on violin, Mark Egan on bass and Josh Dion on drums.

Here’s a clip that will give you a very good idea of the Bill Evans Soulgrass sound.
