Robotic Fish in Gijón

From the NEWS section: Robotic Fish in Gijón

How do scientists plan on detecting contaminating leaks and pollution in our lakes and oceans? By using robotic fish, that’s how.

And they’re using the port of Gijón, here in Spain, as their testing ground.

By using very sophisticated sensors, five of these expensive little fish -they cost roughly 22,000 euros apiece- will swim around in search of hazardous materials leaking from vessels and pipelines. Once found, they’ll transmit the information via Wi-Fi back to shore, so that experts can locate the toxic source and fix the problem.

If successful, the system will be employed around the world.
